Sebuah kelahiran

The beginning....
Jumaat, 4 Mei 2007, elyn mula merasa contraction dari pukul 4 pagi lagi. For the whole Friday, we just stayed at home until 11 pm. Elyn telefon labour room hospital, and the midwife asked a few questions like ' how often do you feel the contraction; is there any discharge; etc' and we decided to stay home after the midwife told us not to worry still. Everytime we called Malaysia telling the families about the situation, they all kalut2 asking us to go straight away to the hospital. Based on what have been told to us by friends who delivered their babies here in Australia, the midwives will tell you to go back and stay at home if you do not fulfill the criteria of a women going to deliver soon enough. Being different in Malaysia, if you start feeling the labour contraction, no matter how mild it is, you will be admitted to the ward, and then when the time comes you will be pushed into the labour room.
So I stayed with elyn for the whole day at home, feeling unsettled. She still can smile and laugh, so it was obviously not the time yet, i said. Mrs Y with her hubby and daughter came to visit at about 8 pm, telling all her 'petua' she has learned during her time. Mind you, I think she should write a book on all the 'petua' she has, beginning from early pregnancy, until you are done with the confinement period, plus confinement guide for husbands too..haha!!

The transition...
Then at 11pm, I finally decided to take elyn to the hospital. She was examined by a midwife and a CTG was done to see how the baby was going. Everything was fine, the midwife said that the cervix was not really dilated yet, and she suggested us to stay for a while and see how it went. After a while, another midwife, Patricia, came in and checked again by just touching the belly to feel the contraction. She then gave elyn the pethedine at about 12.30am. Elyn then went to sleep with contraction pain every now and then. At 2am, she started to feel the contraction becoming more frequent and strong. Greg, a male midwife came in and increased the 'happy gas' content and asked elyn to breath in more as the pain came in. She did not really like the gas but she tried. The gas made her feel dizzy and not really in her world.

Dok tengah2 high menghisap happy gas tu, elyn bertanya," abang, dah bayar ke KFC tu? ambik ajer". Aku tersenyum sendirian, sambil terus berdoa semoga segalanya berjalan lancar dan dipermudahkan oleh Allah.

The time has come...
Pat datang semula sekitar pukul 3pagi, dan memberitahu pintu rahim dah terbukak sekitar 7cm. It was a good progress. Pukul 12 masih lagi less than 1cm, and within 3 hours dah terbukak lebih dari 6cm. Masa ni muka elyn dah mula lain, no more sembang2 in between the pain. To make the story short, elyn mula push dalam pukul 4am. Aku terus bertasbih, bertahmid, bertakbir, dan berzikir sepanjang waktu, terutama semasa elyn tengah pushing. Tak ada apa yang boleh dibantu selain berada di sisi dan beri semangat kepada isteri tersayang. Allaahu Akbar! dah nampak sedikit rambut! push lagi sayang, lagii!!

Pengalaman menemani elyn sewaktu labour tak akan aku lupakan. Hanya elyn, aku dan Pat di dalam bilik bersalin. aku amat mengagumi semangat elyn, tidak sekali dia bercakap yang bukan2, jauh sekali melempar kata2 yang kurengs atau menyakiti aku. Cuma erangan dan teriakan yang tidak terlalu kuat yang kedengaran, sambil sesekali menggenggam erat tangan dan rambut aku... Alhamdulillah, elyn memang strong! Allah berikan kekuatan yang aku rasa tidak ada dalam diri mana2 lelaki di dunia ini untuk menghadapinya kepada insan yang bernama ibu.

Alhamdulillah...
Tepat jam 5.56am, Sabtu 5 Mei 2007 bersamaan 18 Rabiul Akhir 1428H, lahirlah Wan Muhammad Aiman ke dunia, disambut dengan penuh kesyukuran oleh kedua ibubapanya sambil menitiskan air mata kegembiraan. Maha Suci Allah, betapa indahnya ciptaanMu, dan betapa hebatnya kekuasaanMu! Seorang lagi insan telah lahir ke muka bumi dan kali ini ianya disaksikan oleh aku sendiri, kini seorang ayah! Semoga Aiman membesar menjadi anak yang soleh, ameen...
