Sabar itu sebahagian dari Iman

"Patience"... that was the topic of our group discussion/intellectual discourse for this week and my house was the venue for today's meeting. But it was only 5 of us, H couldn't make it coz he had to settle other important problem.

Back to our topic, patience. LOts of things have been discussed about the importance of being patience. Patience is an important value that we have to practice every day. We can not deny that the Prophets were the most patience as they were the most challenged and tested by Allah s.w.t. For us, Allah will never test us by things that we can not bear with, and He will upgrade us according to our level of patience. Patience plays a big role in our life, apart from being half of our relegious practice (the other half is thankfulness), patience is a part of Iman. This tells us that having or being patience is a must for a Muslim.

This is a story or sirah that I told to the group. One day, Rasulullah s.a.w was sitting with his other companions including Abu Bakar r.a. Then came a man who was a non-believer (kafir) and he started to abuse Abu Bakar, saying bad things to him. Abu Bakar just sat there without retaliation. Rasulullah smiled, approving what Abu Bakar was doing. After a while, Abu Bakar stood up and responded to that man. At this point, Rasulullah also stood up and walked away from Abu Bakar. Realizing that something was wrong, AbuBakar ran towards Rasulullah asking why he walked away when he responded to the man who was abusing him. Rasulullah then explained to Abu Bakar,'When that man was abusing you, and you sat there quietly, there was an Angel responding back to him. But when you stand up and responded to that man, the angel was gone and Satan took his place beside you'.

Allah mentioned a lot about sabr in Al-Quran. In most of these ayat, Allah promise that He will be together with the patient. As a conclusion, I quoted an ayat from Surah Al-Baqarah ayat 153, Allah siad; "O ye who believe! Seek help with patient/perseverance and Prayer: for Allah is with those who patiently persevere" [Wahai sekalian orang-orang yang beriman! There is no short cut in life... so work hard, make du'a and supplicate to Allah, and leave it to Him to decide the best for us (tawakkal).
